People tend to have a warm spot in their hearts, for a one of a kind items no matter what it is. Some of these items we hold dear to our hearts may be an old picture of the family or even a silly drawing you drew back when you were 12. We all have that one special thing we can say is priceless.
Hutton House is home to just that. It is a creative space that offers a variety of learning classes from cooking, art, health, pottery and even career services. They provide many services for the community and find different ways to help give back, as well as uniting everyone.
Hutton House is providing a 5-week beginning pottery class inviting everyone to create and learn a new skill. In the 5 weeks, students will learn all the steps to making their own pottery pieces.
“I have learned a lot from my students as much as they learned from me” this was said by one of the pottery instructors Kerri Jerome when she talked about her classes.
Proceeds from students attending classes go back to more materials used in classes and a chance for people living with disabilities to get out of their comfort zones and to experience a new skill. It’s not only a feel-good experience learning a new skill you can also provide students with disabilities to experience a once in a lifetime skill.
Not only attending a class can help this great cycle of giving. But even doing something as simple as buying a mug or art piece contributes to making someone happy. 60 percent of the sale goes back to the artist who created the masterpiece. 40 percent goes to providing more materials, projects, and teachers for these community classes.
This location is known for being accessible for all abilities, they have wheelchairs accessible spinning boards that allow people who use wheelchairs to learn without feeling uncomfortable.
Hutton House also hosts events and meet up to introduce bosses from different business to people who are living with disabilities. This is a way to end the stigma around people with disabilities and workplaces.
“They can bring more to the table then you think, they have different ways of thinking that benefit business and workplaces” was said by Asha Supaul the Media coordinator of Hutton House where she spoke about this event that’s happening.
They hope many businesses and workplace HRs attend to help end stigmas and to maybe even find new employees.
Students that attend these classes either have the chance to keep their masterpiece or to sell it at one of the two gift shops Hutton house has. One of their two gift shops is located at their main building 654 Wonderland rd as well as on the second floor of the Western fair.
This is a welcoming home where you can release your creative crave and dive into different types of art.
