Komoka Provincial Park, located in London Ontario, is one of 330 Ontario Parks. Komoka park is a great way for Londoners to feel surrounded by nature throughout the year. In the summer, you can go camping, maybe do a beach day or even just a hike for a few hours.
Not only are these provincial parks for camping, they also offer lots of activities for all seasons. Brendan Shepherd, Komoka Provincial Park Superintendent, tells us what activities they have through the winter months.
“There’s lots of winter activities available, such as, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and winter hiking, once the snow falls, and it’s an excellent place to walk your dog on leash and explore nature along the Thames River.”
This year, there was an increase in visitors at Komoka Provincial Park compared to past years. This was a good result out of COVID-19, but it also meant the Parks had to accommodate. The staff had to adjust by implementing measures that are necessary to keep everyone safe.
“Across Ontario parks we implemented measures were necessary to address overcrowding and promote physical distancing in our park spaces and as well as our buildings during busy visitation times such things as limiting occupancy for day use and camping in some of our parks, and also in limiting the number of daily vehicle permits sold or the number of campsites that were available for reservations.” Said Shepherd.
Staff are continuously changing trying to adapt to the safety measures that COVID-19 implemented.
“As we continue to adapt to the changing public health guidelines, visitors to Ontario parks can visit Ontario parks and that will provide an up to date database of which activities and facilities are available at each Provincial Park in Ontario.”
Sometimes being in the city all the time can get a bit stressful. Having a beautiful Ontario Park in London is amazing for stress and just a reminder of how fascinating London is.
