The London Lightning have beat the Windsor Express 107-97 in game 2 of the National Basketball League of Canada’s Semi-Finals.
The Lightning were led by a strong performance from Jermaine Haley who finished with 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Express were led by Billy White who finished with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Windsor came out with more intensity after dropping game 1 of the series. The first quarter ended as the game begun in a tie 24-24. Windsor maintained their strong play and pulled ahead for a halftime lead. London did not lead once in the first half.
The score at half was 55-48, Nick Garth led the Express with 15 points at the half.
The Lightning were led by Jermaine Haley who had 16 points at the half.
There were multiple telling stats on the Lightnings disadvantage at the end of the first half.
The Windsor Express won the bench points battle outscoring London 20-9. The Express’ defence also tightened up during the second quarter as they held the Lightning to 0-7 from three-point range. The Express also won the first half’s points off turnover battle contributing to their lead finishing with a 17-6 advantage.
The Express’ defence isn’t the only thing that caught fire during the second quarter as they shot 70.6% from the field compared to London who shot 52.6%.
In the third the Lightning began their comeback; it was a tightly contested quarter but ultimately, they finished the quarter with a 82-72 lead. The Lightning found their shooting touch in the third shooting 50% from behind the arc and they got to the free throw line 8 times. In the entire first half the Lightning attempted 9 free throws compared to 15 in the third quarter alone.
The fourth quarter was not close with the Lightning’s lead growing too as much as 19 points.
During the game Canadian Terry Thomas was recognized for winning the NBLC’s 6Man of The Year award.
The Lightning and Express will be back in action for game 3 on Friday in Windsor, tip-off is at 7:30p.m.
