London’s brand new Old Oaks Centro Building has officially surpassed One London Place as the tallest building in the city.
The building, which still has four more floors to go, is still under construction and stands at 37 stories. The final building is set to be 40 stories tall and reach a height of 129 metres tall.
This number has now put the new building ahead of One London Place’s record of 113 metres in height.
“Height and density in the core of our city,” says London Mayor Josh Morgan.
“Hundreds of new homes and a new place for people to live right here in the heart of London Ontario. I’m so proud to lead a city council that is committed to building housing for everyone in the city.”
One London Place had held the record for over 30 years, regularly hosting various events including stair climbs due to the building’s status.
While the Old Oaks Centro Building is holding the title for the tallest building in the city at the moment, it won’t be holding it for too long.
Plans are now in place for a new tallest building in the city, which will be a two towered highrise.
Early looks show that the building will end up reaching 53 stories and over 186 metres in total.
“There’s so much more to come. As you know, we’ve made more approvals, we’re building more high density towers, and this is really a city on the move,” says Morgan.
Both sets of buildings will be located in London’s downtown core, with the Old Oaks Centro Building being located at 150 Dufferin Ave and the new planned building expected to be built at 50 King St.
