The London Fire department has announced a partnership with Wounded Warriors to provide firefighters with mental health support.
This partnership offers support to active firefighters as well as retirees as Wounded Warriors is an organization that often partners with first responders and also army veterans to offer support with mental illnesses such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“This was a really great story for the London Fire Department, it was received really well by our employee group” says Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Gary Bridge.
Mental health is a serious issue within the lives of first responders.
“There’s a level of bravado that exists within the fire service, we choose not to focus on our mental health” added Bridge.
This partnership offers up the opportunity for those in the service to open up about the stress that comes from the job.
With Remembrance Day approaching there was no better timing for The London Fire Department to form this partnership.
“The timing is fitting with Remembrance Day coming up, it’s not just about first responders, it’s about anyone in uniform” says Bridge.
The London Fire Department joins The London Police Service as the 2nd group of first responders to partner with Wounded Warriors.
