The Forest City Film Festival begins on October 19 and continues until October 27. The festival is an annual event with films from across southwestern Ontario and the world.
The festival also hosts a youth program to help aspiring filmmakers get some recognition.
Jonathan Duncan, a film student at Fanshawe College said this when asked about the program’s impact on a young film enthusiast’s beginning in the industry. “The opportunity kinda means everything, especially for a high school student,” he says.”You never know what….production company will pick them up or just see their films.”
It’s going to be the biggest year yet according to event organizer Dominic Demendeev. “We have more films than ever, We received more submissions than ever,” he says “We also have a brand new program called the Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment Award.”
The award will be yearly and it is meant to recognize people involved in the creation of films from across southwestern Ontario. It will feature a Q and A session along with a screening of their films. This year’s guest is actor Victor Garber, who portrayed the ship’s designer in the Titanic, and the professor in Legally Blonde, both movies will be on screen during the festival’s duration.
