The London Lightning may have missed the playoffs, but they ended their season on a high note on April 3 with an End-of-Year Wrap-Up Open House at the Southside Group Gym.
Despite a narrow 100-104 loss to Jamestown Jackals that ended their playoff hopes, the Lightning chose not to dwell on what could have been. Instead, the team focused on celebrating the loyal fans who supported them through every moment of the season.
The gym at 75 Blackfriars Street was packed with energy as fans of all ages lined up to meet players, take photos, and pick up exclusive merchandise. Music played, kids shot hoops, the vibe was filled with love and support.
“When I walked in the gym, in the arena, it was crazy,” said Lightning head coach Jerry Williams. “The fan support is really, really well, and it makes me feel really good to have that support for the team.”
Williams added the team remains committed to its long-term goals.
“We’re just going to try to stick with this team and just stick with them for the long run and try to go and win another championship,” he said.
While the Lightning may not have reached their ultimate goal this season, the atmosphere was filled with hope. With key players expected to return and roster upgrades in the works, the team is already preparing for a strong comeback next year.
The event, running from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., was free and open to fans of all ages.
