The last London business that got shut down due to flooding happened in July 2024, this is when London experienced a record-breaking 210 millimeters of rain that caused widespread damage. Although London isn’t experiencing record-breaking rainfall right now, we are currently experiencing some dreadful weather. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for “Freezing Rain” and “Rainfall Warning”. It’s quite possible that over the next couple of days we could receive 40–60 millimeters of rain. With all this rain comes a concern, flooding. Flooding is something that doesn’t happen too often in London, but with the size of the storm that’s hitting. It’s crucial for local businesses to be updated on new safety precautions to be sure no flooding happens.
One of the managers at Restore, Renovate and Build Nicholas Kuskoff says, “I think the biggest thing is just to check on your sump pumps regularly, right, regular maintenance to a sump pump makes a world of a difference, just ensuring that you’re moving water and pumping it away as efficiently as possible.”
Kuskoff also expresses the importance for businesses to have a backup power system. “Backup systems are always recommended as well, right, in the event of a power outage, that’s the heartbeat of your entire drainage system, right so to ensure that’s still moving water goes a long way”.
Although the breezy weather will continue into Thursday, It is looking like Friday will be a nice sunny day with a high of 11 degrees.
Hopefully Thursday will be the last day of strong gusts and showers, this allows everyone to enjoy the warm temperatures and clear skies heading into the weekend.
