Through London’s Renew Construction Program, $170 million would be put into new infrastructure projects across the city.
According to the City of London, among the programs that would benefit from the funding are five phases of rapid transit.
Lengths of the connected rapid transit grid including the Highbury bridge, and Oxford Street East are highlighted in Renew London’s top 10 projects for 2025.
The frustration among commuters however was palpable throughout areas with heavy construction.
With the anticipation of more construction around the city, drivers and transit riders alike are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time.
William Pol is an Environmental Design and Planning Professor and a Land Use Planner in Ontario.
He says that the plans made in London’s Master Mobility Plan are to envision how getting around the city would be like in the next 25 years, but ideally, people would be getting around without having to drive to places exclusively.
“I really think the goals for the city to have about 30% of all trips being by walking, cycling, or public transit. I think that’s the goal that I see for the city. And the way to make that happen is to make public transit, cycling, and pedestrians as safe, as convenient as it would be to have your own car.” Pol said.
