Springbank park has played a huge part in London’s history and now is a beautiful park full of life. The park has picked up many regular visitors over the years who stick out the weather through rain or snow. With the temperatures rising and dropping so drastically over the past week, some might assume people will be skeptical of walking along the edge of the Thames river, but no, many of the parks visitors are ready and willing to face the cold.
London Tourism doesn’t classify Springbank as a tourist attraction, but it does contain two of the biggest attractions in London, The Thames river and Story book gardens.
At about 300 acres Springbank is the largest park in London and has picked up its fair share of regulars who go to the park daily “It’s my own world, away from the rest of the world,” said one visitor who has been coming to spring bank for the last 40 years. He shared that he had gone to western many years prior but was unaware of the parks existence until moving here permanently. Anther park regular described the park as a “Peaceful piece of heaven.”
Some other visitors to the park are the huge amount of Canadian geese who are wandering the park during this time of year. The geese are quiet territorial as they are starting to nest, so it’s best to try and avoid them as best as possible. However, if you want to get close to the geese that will probably happen anyways as some tend to run at you either expecting for or with intentions to hiss. So, in visiting the park keep an eye out as they can be very aggressive. In keeping your distance, the geese can be quiet peaceful to watch and some regulars shared that they enjoy coming to the park to watch the birds.
The park also hosts many events, including a monthly nature walk held by the center of movement arts. The Park also contains a jungle gym and a water park which will be up and running in the summer months but for now is an empty blue hole near the edge of the park.
On a day that was expected to be filled with rain and snow and temperatures in the negatives (Especially by the lake) One does not expect to find a park so full of life, but many residents are willing to stick it out and come for a visit. Spring bank is a huge part of London.
