Fanshawe Pioneer Village has been holding Halloween activities and events for other themes throughout the year for two decades or so. In past years they have done a midnight village and haunted hayrides but have never done a haunted house before. The idea came together as they wanted to try and combine the two Halloween events, they have done for so many years into one big event. They are hoping this will be a very involved experience for their visitors as there has been lots of work put into it.
They have said this will be more of an adult Halloween event and recommend being above 14 years and older if families or friends are going to go and experience this. The event is split up into 3 stages as it is a cross between a walking tour, a theatrical performance and a haunted house. They have used specific events in history for this to make it seem more real for their visitors. They are hoping you will feel like you’ve been transferred back into the 1900’s.
Alison Deplonty who is the Public Programming Coordinator at Fanshawe Pioneer Village said ” We used things like the plague, the Spanish flu, major influenza outbreaks in order to come up with this event, so we used history as a starting point in order to create something that had a little bit of a Halloween sensibility.”
Alison also said, ” This event now gives you the history you would have gotten from the midnight village, but this a definitively more fictional take as you would have gotten in the haunted hayrides.”
This event goes until October 30th and sounds like it could be a fun Halloween activity to go and do. They said it is going to be a little scarier since they are using real events from the past but that is also why it’s more of an adult Halloween event. With the 3 different stages you go through and it being one big event that has been put together by multiple people for the first time this year, they are hoping this will be there best Halloween event yet.
