Mother’s Day is a unique date that happens once a year. Meant to honor, appreciate, and prestige the maternal figure, it is always makes people rush around looking for a bouquet to gift someone they love. This year hasn’t been different. ”It is the busiest time of the year for us. It is even busier than Valentine’s Day”; says Charlotte, owner of Grow & Bloom. ”We find that typically speaking on Valentine’s Day, people might order just one item or two, but on Mother’s Day they always want something for more than one person”. At this point, I can’t even tell you the number of orders we will get”.
Flowers have a multicultural significance, represent love, and are definitely way more than just an item. ”My mother is my best friend. She has been going through cancer treatment for the last few years, and being able to honor my mom and show that I love her and appreciate her is something I do every day. She knows that getting in floral design makes this day the busiest day for me, so we celebrate the holiday a day later”. Charlotte added on saying that the flower shop has a special set menu just for the day that is used to inspire the clientele to choose from.
To keep on with the high demand, the vendor Valerie, from Forget me Not Flowers and More at Covent Garden Market, emphasizes the importance of variety to grab people’s attention. ”People are always looking for pinkish flowers. It is important that we have a big display that can cover their expectations”. At the market, some vendors appreciate the variety of food in the place, which is super attractive for people to come with their families and try something different. Photo by Bernardo Lucca
