A new bus service linking London, Ontario, to nearby cities and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is now in the former Greyhound bus terminal at 101 York Street.
“We know the transportation industry’s problems and we know how it affects students, especially since Greyhound went out of operation,” said Intercity bus marketing manager Usman Qayyum.
“Every time I need to travel to Toronto airport, it is so difficult and time-consuming to get out of London,” said Fanshawe College student Elmer Herrera. “I need to take two buses within the city to get to the actual bus that will take me to my destination.”
He adds that he once lost a bus to the airport and had to reschedule another one due to the time and different buses it takes to get to the bus stops.
“On top of that, now we have to deal with the detours and construction around the city, which makes it more time-consuming and tedious,” Herrera said.
Qayyum says they are the only bus service to Fanshawe College in London.
“We have a stop right in front of Fanshawe College’s A building,” Qayyum says.
Qayyum adds that no other bus service provider has a proper terminal for its customers.
“One of the most significant issues people face with the current bus services is that they must wait outside in bad weather, the cold, or rain with their luggage for frequently late buses. That is a danger to their safety,” Qayyum says. “No other bus service in London strongly focuses on students as we do.”
Qayyum says that Fanshawe students can wait for their bus inside Royal Paan’s restaurant at 1579 Oxford Street.
“We will keep offering different discounts as we go along,” Qayyum says.
He adds that they will always try to keep their prices “competitive and friendly.”
“Our prices are already more economical than our competitors. We will try to have promotions and discounts, especially for one of our main targeted audiences, students,” Qayyum says.
Intercity bus president Bilal Taj says that the intercity bus terminal has eight buses with 56 seats each, which means more customer schedules and departures.
