With the price to replace electric vehicle batteries pushing over 20k, this may scare Canadians away from buying one.
It is said that companies are working to make EV’s more affordable, but with only dealerships doing repairs it makes the price options slim.
“These manufacturers are working to make less components apart of the battery to make these vehicles more affordable.” says Luke Grace, a professor in Fanshawe College’s Green Vehicle Tech program.
Grace is an EV owner as well as a mechanic of 20 plus years, so he knows what goes into the batteries.
“Where we stand now is that there are so many components and when one small thing goes it’s just easier to replace the battery”
Grace also spoke about how there are no small repair shops that deal in electric vehicles and people are forced to go to the dealerships where the dollar figures start to skyrocket.
Bottom line is, Canadians may be hesitant to purchase an EV if the replacement costs continue to be high.
