Toronto Blue Jays fans wait on the edge of their seats to find out whether or not MLB icon Shohei Ohtani will sign with the team. The Jays are said to be a front runner alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 29-year-old Japanese superstar.
The odds could be in Toronto’s favor, as Ohtani has a strong bond with Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi as he looked up to him while playing in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) during his rookie years in Japan.
For Blue Jays fans, this is a big deal, especially Evans Pottruff. “This is equivalent to the batt flip, genuinely speaking, like a guy like Ohani.. Said Pottruff. “It’s incomparable how much of an impact he would be able to make on a team like this because the Jays are already a pretty good team.”
Ohtani’s skill would make a crucial impact on the way the jays perform and Blue Jays owner, Rogers, seems they’ll go to great lengths to get their hands on opportunity like this
“They’ve made the playoffs like three of their last four years and with little to no success, but when you add a guy like Ohtani, yeah, the number is gonna be crazy if you end up signing in for a crazy amount, I think the significance of a deal like this would be unbelievable for Toronto.” Said Pottruff.
For baseball fanatic Christian Lazar, the possibilities this negotiation could be the greatest acquisition Canadian sports has seen.
“There’s so many layers to this and like In the most simplistic way to put it is that it would be the biggest acquisition in Canadian sports history. He’s an international mega story. It’s also a perfect fit because the one thing that the Jays have been missing for quite a while and for a very long time.” said Lazar.
With Ohtani being a very secretive person, its quite tricky to predict what choice he will make, but Toronto does hold some leverage to convince the beloved player to join the Jays family.
“it’s hard to say what the Jays can do to make this deal happen without knowing what Ohani wants and that’s like the only people that wants to go to a winning team, which the Jays are capable of giving him; you just have to sell him on Canada as you’re playing for a country and not a city” said Lazar. “With Toronto being very multicultural, there’s a massive Japanese contingent that could also help as well as Yusei Kikuchi because Ohtani looked up to Kakuchi growing up.”
Ohtani is expected to announce his final decision on where he will play next within the next two days.
