Londoner and NBA player Shaedon Sharpe has officially launched his basketball program right here in London.
Friday marks the first of free weekly basketball drop in sessions at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre. Natalia Rendon one of the mothers says “I think it’s just overall a chance for them to be active, it’s Friday night right like why not have them here instead of somewhere else, instead of doing something else that may not be as inspiring or excellent around the city.
” Natalia’s son who was there shooting around say’s that “I think it’s a great experience. I’m personally trying to get better. So I look forward to having those that feels sessions with like trainers and everyone who knows the game and every time I just look to enjoy and have fun.
When being asked if they inspired him to be like the professional’s Natalia’s son said “I don’t plan on being just like them. I plan on being like myself, but it would be a great experience to meet them and play with them. And I just want to get to know them and hang out with them.”
Karen Dillane one of the organizers says “youth’s between the ages 10-17 years old can come out and meet new people and friends and just play some basketball.”
Sharpe is in his second season with the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers, and is only 20 years old. Organizers say the program right now is set to run until the end for March and that the next round of registration will open up on March 22 and that will be for April until the end of June.
