Fanshawe College’s 53rd Fine Art Advanced Diploma graduating class showcased its creativity at the Opening Reception of the year-end exhibition at the TAP Centre for Creativity on Saturday evening.
The reception brought students, faculty and art enthusiasts to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.
The exhibit, which the students named Somethin’ Ain’t Right, features works from 20 graduates in their final term. Like the title suggests, the artwork addresses pressing issues in today’s society, either emphasizing the prevalent sense of unease or celebrating the beauty and solace that can still be found in our surroundings.
Marla Botterill, Fanshawe professor and coordinator of the Fine Art and Fine Art Foundation programs, said the exhibit reflects the individuality of each student and the evolving nature of the yearly showcase.
“Well, I think, like all of the expeditions, it celebrates the diversity that are, like, students do,” Botterill said. “No show is the same. Every year changes, every year, the students bring their own unique perspective and personality to it.”
The reception featured a speech from graduation speaker Adi Berardini, Director at Forest City Gallery. This followed an address from Botterill.
The graduates’ works span a broad range of media, processes, concepts and subjects, which offer a glimpse into the scope of creativity the program contains.
Somethin’ Ain’t Right runs from March 26 to April 5 at the TAP Centre for Creativity, located at 203 Dundas St. in downtown London.
