“I wanted to bring a dance community with me that promoted this kind of mantra and I knew London didn’t have anything like this. So once I got here and realized there were so many women who needed an outlet-such as myself, it just felt like the right thing to do.”
The style of dance in growing in popularity, as AOS London is heading into its 3rd session. There are about 40 women that attend classes on a regular basis.
Jackie Lau is a dancer with AOS that it’s a great way to exercise but she says it’s much more than that.
“It’s given me a new found confidence and just to not care so much about what everyone else thinks. I look forward to going to something every week, but it’s something that’s actually good for my body. That’s definitely changed my physical heath and my mental health a lot as well.”
Since joining, Lau has worked her way up to assistant dance instructor and works closely with Ellen. All members of Army of Sass London agree that they’re more than a dance team, it’s a close friendship. AOS provides a way to let loose in a space free of judgement and is a family of dancers that promotes loving the skin you’re in, body positivity and overall confidence.
Dancer, Victoria Sams was an all-star cheerleader for 13 years and she describes the close bond they have at AOS.
“It’s been amazing. We are such a family. Coming in once a week-now like three times a week for me it’s such an awesome experience. Everybody is so uplifting, I’ve never been in a room with so many inspiring women that are all uplifting and encouraging each other.”
